Behind The Seams; Make And Source

Behind The Seams; Make And Source

Ethical sourcing and sustainability have become an integral part of who we are as a brand.

We are 100% committed to making an educated change towards better practices and conditions for the industry we love so much.

Trims and details

Sourcing unique trims, textiles, books, wares and inspiration in many forms from around the globe is one of our favourite things to do. We love nothing more than sharing this through our collections and across our retail stores.

Sourcing

Our team is passionate about the products we create. From the very beginning, authenticity is at the forefront of our ethos. Our designer's research, travel and immerse themselves in a chosen theme to be able to interpret and adapt into our own unique aesthetic. Over the years, we have scoured flea markets, seasonal pop-ups and almost anywhere to find the fabrics. We love discovering vintage clothing, and curios to uniquely inspire every piece in our collections. We are not about doing what is necessarily ‘on trend’, we prefer to create designs that have an ageless and lasting appeal that can be worn for seasons to come.

Inspirations

Hidden gems are everywhere if you look in the right places! Here our Creative Director, Amelia, and Product Development & Production Manager, Justine, find treasures throughout India – from beautiful artists at work to incredible street finds.

Meet the Makers

We pride ourselves on the relationships we have built with our suppliers over the years, from the owners of the factories to the merchandisers, makers in the factories and mills that produce our fabrics. We love visiting the makers in China & India up to 4 times a year so we can see our collections in works, giving us a greater understanding of the process and allowing us to spend time with the talented people who make our designs come to life.

A breakdown of our sources for fabrics and production

Much love and passion go into the making of our garments and accessories in all of our factories. Here we visit our swim makers in China.

Embroidery

We believe India are world leaders in creating the most beautiful embroideries. We understand how labour intensive hand embroidery can be, so we opt for highly technical machine embroidery techniques to interpret our signature embroidery designs. We currently have two skilled embroidery makers, one in Delhi and one in Jaipur.

Every one of our embroideries is unique to Tigerlily, designed in Sydney, Australia and crafted beautifully by our makers in India.

Freight

We consolidate our production orders for freight to minimise CO2 emissions. We recognise sea freight is the more environmentally sound mode of freight and is, therefore, our preferred option when planning our production timelines.

Packaging

All Tigerlily goods are now delivered in biodegradable bags made with the additive D2W®. D2W® converts plastic products at the end of their life into materials which are biodegradable, leaving no toxic residues. Recycled cartons and swing tags have long been part of your garment. We continue to research further change as technology advances to bring your garment to you in the most sustainable way we can. Ethical sourcing and sustainability have become an integral part of who we are as a company. We are 100% committed to making ongoing and educated change towards better practices and conditions for the industry we love so much.

Our Relationships

We are so proud of our long-standing, 10+ years relationships with the majority of our supplier base. Visibility in the supply chain goes far beyond knowing the owners of the factories. Our Management, Design, and Production Teams regularly visit the offices, factories and even some of the mills that produce for Tigerlily (often 4 times yearly). We engage with 10 boutique-midscale factories for 90% of our production.

Amelia, Justine and the team from Tigerlily HQ meet with our merchandisers and teams in Hong Kong and China.

Factory Audits

We have been conducting 3rd party audits of our factories for over decade. In 2015 as part of our growing commitment, we appointed globally recognised auditors, Bureau Veritas, to continue our quest for greater visibility. Bureau Veritas has supported our journey for continual improvement in quality, environmental compliance, and social responsibility. Evaluation is based on our code of conduct, containing standards equivalent to SA800 and Worldwide Responsible Accredited Production (WRAP).

Our Production

Our suppliers are intrinsic to all that we do and these relationships have been built with a shared respect. Our entire Tigerlily team, Management, Design and Product Development are passionate about improving efficiency throughout the entire process – from design, development, sampling, pre-production and shipment stage. We promote environmental responsibility and are trialing new materials and processes alongside our partners.
